Observations: Works by Melissa W. Miller
Observations: Works by Melissa W. Miller showcases a variety of artworks created by the Texas artist Melissa Miller. Her work expresses illustrated narratives that are inspired by fables, human interactions with each other, and how humans affect animals in different environments
The exhibition is currently open, and it will close on August 6th, 2023.

Tyler Collects: Texas Art from 1920 – 1970
The Tyler Collects exhibition celebrates the various artworks that are collected by private collectors and public institutions in the region of Tyler, Texas. This showcase will feature artworks that were created in the early 1920’s to the late 1970’s.
The exhibition will open on June 4th, 2023 and will close on September 17st, 2023.

Educational Activities and Events
Family Day: In Person
The Tyler Museum of Art’s Family Day program is held every second Saturday of the month from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at the museum. The event will have art activities for children and students of all ages, art books to read for all ages, coloring pages of the museum’s permanent collection, and snacks. All art activities are compliant with the TEKS. Additionally, all Family Day participants will get free admission to the exhibitions.
For June, the art activity will be an Abstract Monotype Activity. The event will be held at the museum on June 10th, 2023 between 2:00pm – 4:00pm.

TMA Lesson Plans for Elementary, Middle School, and High School

19th Annual High School Art Exhibition: The Elements and Principles of Design
For the past 19 years, the Tyler Museum of Art has been exhibiting high school artwork from students in the East Texas area. This lesson examines selected artwork from the 19th Annual High School Art Exhibition to discuss how each piece conveys the elements and principles of design.

This lesson plan and following activity defines each of the principles and elements of design. Art examples of each element and principle are included with the vocabulary words. The artworks used in the lesson are from the Tyler Museum of Art’s permanent collection.

Summer Program:
Art Activity Pop-Ups

During the Summer, the Tyler Museum of Art will have art activity pop-ups around the city of Tyler. The pop-ups will be held every Tuesday and Thursday in June and July between 10:00am and 12:00pm.
The locations can be found here and on the museum’s Facebook page. The museum will be monitoring the weather and temperature for each pop-up event. For any weather updates about the pop-ups and locations, check out the museum’s Facebook page:

Planning a School Tour
If you are interested in scheduling a tour for your students at the museum, please contact ranthony@tylermuseum.org and provide the following information:
- The grade level of the visiting students;
- The number of students who will attend;
- And, three days in your class schedule that are available for the tour.
