Exhibitions
The Art of Texas State Parks exhibition showcases a selection of artworks depicting different Texas State Parks. Artists from across the state captured iconic views of the varied Texas landscape. These works often include wildlife, visitors, and human structures built within the parks. The exhibition serves to celebrate the rich environments of the state.
The exhibition will open on September 27, 2024, and it will close on January 5, 2025.

Forward Facing: A Look at Contemporary Portraiture
Forward Facing: A Look at Contemporary Portraiture features four artists who create modern portraits. The exhibition features works by: Guadalupe Hernandez, Delita Martin, Raul Rene Gonzalez, and Yasuyo Maruyama. The collection of portraits celebrate the culture and history of the artists and the people they depict.
The exhibition will open on August 16, 2024 and it will close on December 1, 2024.

Educational Activities and Events
Family Day: In Person
The Tyler Museum of Art’s Family Day program is held every second Saturday of the month from 1:00pm – 4:00pm at the museum. The event will have art activities for children and students of all ages, art books to read for all ages, coloring pages of the museum’s permanent collection, and snacks. All art activities are compliant with the TEKS. Additionally, all Family Day participants will get free admission to the exhibitions.
For September, the art activity will be a multi-media portrait activity. The event will be held at the museum on September 14, 2024 between 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

TMA Lesson Plans for Elementary, Middle School, and High School
Lesson Plan: Lilian Garcia-Roig, Green Curtain
This lesson plan contains the National Learning Standards for Visual Arts and the Texas TEKS for High School art teachers. The students will study the impasto style found within the artist’s painting. Then, the students will create their own impasto artwork using acrylic paint of canvas board. The students will complete the project by creating an artist statement that explains how they created and planned their finished composition.

Elements and Principles of Design
This lesson plan and following activity defines each of the principles and elements of design. Art examples of each element and principle are included with the vocabulary words. The artworks used in the lesson are from the Tyler Museum of Art’s permanent collection.

Student Exhibitions

2024 Día de los Muertos Art Exhibition
This exhibition is an annual event held at the museum. Students between the grade levels of 5th grade – 8th grade are eligible to participate.
The art activity is to be determined by the teacher and can be either a 3D or a 2D project. Examples of the artworks include: ofrendas, alebrijes, and other artworks that depict the iconography or culture of the holiday.
The teacher will select 30 pieces from each participating grade level to deliver to the museum. The artwork will be delivered to the museum between October 7, 2024 – October 20, 2024.
The exhibition will be free and open to the public from October 27, 2024 – November 3, 2024. The museum will hold a reception for the event.
5th – 8th grade teachers need to email the museum at ranthony@tylermuseum.org to let the education department know you want to participate in the event.

- The grade level of the visiting students;
- The number of students who will attend;
- And, three days in your class schedule that are available for the tour.
