Tales of the Unknown: A Retrospective of Linda Blackburn’s Work
Tales of the Unknown: A Retrospective of Linda Blackburn’s Work celebrates the art and the life of the abstract artist Linda Blackburn. She was born in 1941 and she passed away in 2022. She created paintings, drawings, and ceramics of western films, cowboy imagery, and motifs from famous movies.
The exhibition is currently open, and it will close on September 11th, 2022.

Student and Teacher: Works by Charles Criner and Dr. John Biggers
The Student and Techer: Works by Charles Criner and Dr. John Biggers exhibition examines the works made by the teacher Dr. John Biggers. His work will be paired with the artworks of his student, Charles Criner. The exhibition allows the viewers to see how the teacher’s style influenced the student’s work.
The exhibition is currently open and it will close on August 14th, 2022.

Educational Activities and Events
Family Day To Go Packets
Each second Saturday of the month, the TMA creates a free take-home-packet for students ranged from kindergarten to 12th grade. It includes themed art activities, art supplies, and a snack. All of the activities are compliant with the TEKS.
For August, the packets will contain Elements and Principles of Art vocabulary with a mosaic collage art activity and a coloring page. The packets will be available for pick-up at the museum on August 13th, 2022.

TMA Lesson Plans for Elementary, Middle School, and High School
Lesson Plan:
Linda Blackburn’s Montana Territory
This lesson plan contains the Texas TEKS for Elementary, Middle, and High School art teachers. Students will learn about Linda Blackburn’s use of Pop-Art and Post-Pop art movements in her watercolor painting Montana Territory. Then, the class will create their own watercolor Pop-Art painting that references their favorite pop-culture medium.

This lesson plan defines each of the principles and elements of design. Art examples of each element and principle are included with the vocabulary words. The artworks used in the lesson are from the Tyler Museum of Art’s permanent collection.
