Coreen Spellman Exhibition:
Works on Paper
The Coreen Spellman exhibition will present Coreen Spellman’s works on paper that display abstract landscapes and unique uses of shape, line, and monochromatic tones.
The exhibition is open between September 12th, 2021 and December 5th, 2021.

Little Black Dress: Selections from The Texas Fashion Collection and Works by Nancy Lamb
The Little Black Dress exhibition is organized by the Tyler Museum of Art in partnership with the Texas Fashion Collection of the University of North Texas College. It focuses on the concept of the ‘little black dress’, popularized by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in the 1920’s. The various dresses and accessories are placed in context with Nancy Lamb’s Social Spaces paintings.
The exhibition will open on November 7, 2021 and close January 30, 2022.

Educational Activities and Events
Family Day To Go Packets
Each second Saturday of the month, the TMA creates a free take-home-packet for students ranged from kindergarten to 12th grade. It includes themed art activities, art supplies, and a snack. All of the activities are compliant with the TEKS.
For November, the packets will be focusing on the thanksgiving holiday and harvest season. The packets will be available for pick-up at the museum on November 13th, 2021.

New Lesson Plan:
Color Theory: History and Art
This lesson plan contains the Texas TEKS for Elementary, Middle, and High School art teachers. The lesson plan discusses the history of color theory, provides examples of different color harmonies, and concludes with a color harmony still life project. The lesson plans are posted every two – three weeks on the TMA Education Blog.

This lesson plan contains the Texas TEKS for Elementary, Middle, and High School art teachers. The lesson plan explains the history and iconography of Día de los Muertos. The lesson plans are posted every two – three weeks on the TMA Education Blog.

Elements and Principles of Design
This lesson plan defines each of the principles and elements of design. Art examples of each element and principle are included with each vocabulary word. The artworks used are from the Tyler Museum of Art’s permanent collection.

Planning a School Tour
If you are interested in scheduling a tour for your students at the museum, please contact ranthony@tylermuseum.org and provide the following information: the grade level, the number of students who will attend, and three days in your class schedule that are available for the tour. Student Exhibitions
2021 Middle School
Day of the Dead Art Exhibition
The Day of the Dead Middle School Art Exhibition is an annual event held at the TMA. Middle school students create artworks in their classrooms that celebrate the cultural festivities of Día de los Muertos. The artwork will be exhibited in the museum’s classroom and lobby.
The goal of this event is to showcase student artwork and encourage middle school students to learn more about Mexico’s culture and festivities.
This year, we had 18 school districts in the East Texas area and a total of 743 students participating in the exhibition.
The exhibition will be open to the public on October 31st, 2021, and it will close on November 7th, 2021.
