Exhibitions

18th Annual High School Art Exhibition
The High School Exhibition presents 86 artworks from East Texas high school art students. The goal is to celebrate art education in the East Texas community. The exhibition is generously sponsored by Betsy Ellis through the Ellis Family Foundation.
When you visit the museum, you can vote for your favorite artwork. The votes will be counted throughout the span of the show, and the winner will be awarded Viewer’s Choice. The exhibition is currently open and will close on May 22nd, 2022.

Building a Legacy III:
Selections from the Permanent Collection
The Building a Legacy III Exhibition celebrates the Tyler Museum of Art’s 50th anniversary. It showcases various art mediums and styles that reside in our permanent collection.
The exhibition is currently open and it will close on May 1st, 2022.

Educational Activities and Events
Family Day To Go Packets
Each second Saturday of the month, the TMA creates a free take-home-packet for students ranged from kindergarten to 12th grade. It includes themed art activities, art supplies, and a snack. All of the activities are compliant with the TEKS.
For April, the packets will contain Spring Season art activities. The packets will be available for pick-up at the museum on April 9th, 2022. Additionally, the museum is collaborating with Kendra Scott on April 9th between 10:00am – 2:00pm. The museum will have April Family Day Packets and an Art Activity Pop-Up at the Tyler Kendra Scott store, which is located in the Cumberland Park Shopping Center.

TMA Lesson Plans for Elementary, Middle School, and High School
Lesson Plan:
Otis Jones’ Blue with Four White Squares
This lesson plan contains the Texas TEKS for Elementary, Middle, and High School art teachers. Students will learn about Otis Jones’ style of Minimalism. Then, the students will create a Minimalist artwork that focuses on symmetry, balance, movement, and rhythm.

Bill Montgomery’s Living Room
This lesson plan defines each of the principles and elements of design. Students will learn about the Surrealism of Bill Montgomery’s Living Room. Afterwards, the students will make a Surrealist composition using color pastels.

Elements and Principles of Design
This lesson plan defines each of the principles and elements of design. Additionally, the lesson examines selected artwork from the 18th Annual High School Art Exhibition to discuss how each piece conveys the elements and principles of design. The lesson was written by Hannah Cammack, a high school intern at the Tyler Museum of Art. The lesson was edited by Rachel Anthony, the Tyler Museum of Art Education Manager.

- The grade level of the visiting students;
