Keith Carter’s Peaceable Kingdom: Photographs from the Wittliff Collections

Keith Carter’s Peaceable Kingdom: Photographs from the Wittliff Collections features a selection of animals, people, and landscapes. These scenes inspire the viewer’s imagination to build a connection to the folkloric imagery.

The exhibition is currently open, and it will close on September 6, 2026.

At 55: Recent Acquisitions and Collection Highlights

The At 55: Recent Acquisitions and Collection Highlights exhibition celebrates the 55th anniversary of the Tyler Museum of Art. The exhibition presents newly acquired artworks as well as well-known pieces from famous artists.

The exhibition is currently open, and it will close on August 9, 2026.

Educational Activities and Events


Family Day: In Person

The Tyler Museum of Art’s Family Day program is held every second Saturday of the month from 1:00pm – 4:00pm at the museum. The event will have art activities for children and students of all ages, art books to read for all ages, coloring pages of the museum’s permanent collection, and snacks. All art activities are compliant with the TEKS. Additionally, all Family Day participants will get free admission to the exhibitions. 

For June, the activity will be a Styrofoam Printmaking Activity. The event will be held at the museum on June 13, 2026 between 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

TMA Lesson Plans for Elementary, Middle School, and High School

22nd Annual High School Art Exhibition: Elements and Principles of Design

For the past 22 years, the Tyler Museum of Art has exhibited high school artwork from students in the East Texas area. This lesson examines selected artwork from the 22nd Annual High School Art Exhibition to discuss how each piece expresses the Elements and Principles of Design.

Elements and Principles of Design

This lesson plan and following activity defines each of the principles and elements of design. Art examples of each element and principle are included with the vocabulary words. The artworks used in the lesson are from the Tyler Museum of Art’s permanent collection.

Planning a Free School Tour and Art Activity

If you are interested in scheduling a free tour and art activity for your students at the museum, please contact ranthony@tylermuseum.org and provide the following information:

  • The grade level of the visiting students;
  • The number of students who will attend;
  • And, three days in your class schedule that are available for the tour.
